Christoph Zirngibl

Christoph Zirngibl is a German film composer based in Munich, Bavaria. His recent works include the elaborate orchestral score for Flying Bark’s animated feature “Mia and me – The Hero of Centopia” (directed by Adam Gunn) as well as two documentary scores: for “SKANDAL! Bringing down Wirecard” (produced for Netflix by the Oscar-winning production company Passion Pictures) and for a yet to be released documentary (produced by New Black Films and Red Bull Films), both directed by Emmy- nominated James Erskine.

Among the over 80 movies Zirngibl has composed the music for by now, you will find some of the most-watched German prime-time TV movies and successful national feature films as well as a diverse range of indie films, short movies, TV series and documentaries. His outstanding versatility when it comes to finding the right musical vocabulary to best support a filmmaker’s vision is nurtured by his background as a drummer, keyboard player and singer in various choirs, bands and orchestras.

An integral part of Zirngibl’s melody-driven and genre-blending approach to scoring is his role as an invisible actor that adds an extra narrative layer to the story. His music has been awarded the Hollywood Music in Media Award, the Jerry Goldsmith Award and the “German Emmy” (Preis der Deutschen Fernsehakademie) and has been nominated multiple times, e.g. for the German Filmmusic Award, the European Filmmusic Award (Camille Award) and the Music & Sound Awards.

At the Cannes Filmfestival 2022 he was one of ten international composers being selected for the Spot the Composer program. Christoph Zirngibl is a member of the Society of Composers and Lyricists, Deutsche Akademie der Musikautor*innen, the German TV Academy (Deutsche Akademie für Fernsehen) and the German Film Academy (Deutsche Filmakademie).
